Adam Hung is one of the first graduates of our newly introduced Associate Chartered Banker Diploma pathway. We invited Adam to reflect on his journey and share his insights on attaining this prestigious qualification.

You are one of the first to achieve the new Associate Chartered Banker diploma. What has motivated you to continue your professional development with the Institute?

Throughout my career, I’ve pursued knowledge at the intersection of finance, compliance, and technology—not just to keep up, but to stay ahead. The Associate Chartered Banker diploma stood out as a rigorous and forward-thinking qualification that aligned perfectly with my mission to elevate financial integrity and risk management standards. The banking landscape is rapidly evolving, with AI-driven compliance, RegTech innovations, and financial crime threats reshaping the industry. To remain relevant, continuous learning is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. The Chartered Banker Institute offers a global perspective on sustainable, digital, and ethical banking, which resonated deeply with me as I work towards building next-generation compliance frameworks in financial services.

Achieving the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma has granted you Associate Chartered Banker status. How has this impacted you both personally and professionally?

Personally, this achievement has reinforced my belief that learning should never be static. It’s a milestone that represents not just expertise, but a commitment to excellence in banking and compliance. It has also been incredibly fulfilling to be among the first to attain this designation—paving the way for professionals who recognize that banking’s future requires an ever-evolving skill set.

Professionally, it has been a game-changer. This qualification, combined with my expertise in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), financial crime prevention, and AI-driven risk management, has opened doors to new opportunities, including being considered for leadership roles in global banking institutions. The Chartered Banker designation adds a powerful layer of credibility to my profile, positioning me as someone who doesn’t just follow compliance best practices—but actively shapes them.

What advice would you offer to someone considering the path to becoming an Associate Chartered Banker or studying for the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma?

Invest in future-proof skills. The financial world is no longer just about traditional banking—it’s about digital transformation, risk analytics, and AI-driven compliance. The Associate Chartered Banker Diploma gives you a competitive edge, equipping you with the knowledge and framework to navigate the complexities of modern banking.

I’d also say: Approach this journey with a strategic mindset. Don’t just think about passing exams—think about how each module aligns with your long-term career goals. For me, it wasn’t just about earning a qualification but about using it to develop a cutting-edge compliance framework and publish a whitepaper on AI-driven risk management. If you see this diploma as a tool to create opportunities rather than just attain a certification, it will be a career accelerator.

Have you received any unexpected reactions to your achievement of Associate Chartered Banker status, perhaps on LinkedIn?

Yes, and in ways I didn’t anticipate! The outpouring of recognition from professionals across banking, fintech, and compliance has been incredibly encouraging. I’ve had industry peers, recruiters, and even senior banking executives reaching out to discuss how this qualification is shaping the future of banking.

But the most surprising reaction? It’s how this status has validated my unconventional career trajectory. Transitioning from financial crime prevention in luxury healthcare to strategic AML & compliance leadership in banking is not the most typical path. Yet, the Chartered Banker designation has bridged that gap, reinforcing my expertise in financial integrity, compliance, and regulatory leadership.

What are your next steps in your professional development journey? What’s on the horizon for you?

My journey is just beginning. Having developed a comprehensive AML compliance framework for the luxury healthcare sector and authored a whitepaper on AI-driven equities risk management, my next step is to bring these insights to global financial institutions.

I am actively pursuing leadership roles in compliance, AML, and risk management at top-tier banks where I can drive innovation in financial crime prevention, RegTech adoption, and AI-driven compliance solutions. At the same time, I remain committed to thought leadership, with plans to publish more research on how behavioural analytics, alternative data, and blockchain can transform regulatory oversight in financial services.

Ultimately, I see myself at the forefront of shaping the next generation of financial crime compliance, ensuring that the banking sector is not just reactive, but proactive in mitigating risks in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
